Shoebox Scan packages offer an economical solution for scanning volume archives of photographs. We offer six packages at various quantities. Choose the package that corresponds to your quantity of originals. Files are delivered on a DVD data disc for printing --- or viewing and editing on a home computer. We can scan originals from wallet size to 8 1/2” x 11”. Prepare your photos in bundles as follows: Prints must be loose, not in albums**. Stack originals from smallest to largest facing right side up. You may use index cards to divide and sort your photos, and if you label the cards in numerical order, we will scan in that order. Scanning is done backwards: bottom of stack feeds first with photos stacked face up. Any photos that are stacked upside down will be scanned as received. The following will not feed through this scanner: tape, glue, staples, torn photos, polaroids, or mounted prints. We cannot scan photos that are protected by copyright. Files will be jpeg 300ppi at the original size. This file size is the standard for prints. Files are intended for cataloging purposes. Index prints are included.

Our 35mm slide scan packages are offered in two resolutions.

Standard slide scans (11.9mb) - Slides are are scanned at 1664 ppi* which outputs at 5.5” x 8.3” @ 300 ppi or 1664 x 2496 pixels. Standard slide scans provide excellent quality for online viewing, reprints, and archiving with the optimal balance of file size, quality and flexibility.

Large slide scans (36.4mb) - Slides are scanned at 2912 ppi* which outputs at 9.7” x 14.5” @ 300 ppi or 2912 x 4368 pixels. When the original slides are exceptionally sharp, or intended for very large enlargements, our large scans may be preferred.

Files are delivererd in jpeg format on a DVD data disc. Additional DVDs are available at $10 each. Some packages may require multiple discs.

We scan all negatives received. Film strips typically contain multiple images. We require a minimum of 3 frames per strip. (Single frames or 2-frame strips do not qualify.) Negatives are scanned at 1200ppi* which outputs at 4”x 6” @ 300ppi or 1200 x 1800 pixels. File size is ~6 megabytes. Files are delivererd in jpeg format on a DVD data disc. Additional DVDs are available at $10 each.

FRONTIER FILM SCANS

Digital files on our Frontier scanner from 35mm, 645, 6x6, 6x7, or Advanced Photo System film, color or black & white, slides or negatives. Files are proportional to our standard print sizes at 300 ppi, in RGB JPEG format. Some cropping is available. Choose your scan size based on the largest sized print you intend to make from that scan. For example, a 5x scan is optimized for a 5"x7" print. Transportable media costs are not included. Add $6 to have us burn your images to CD. Add 100% for scans of 110 film.

All film is cleaned and color corrected at the scanner. No further work is done on "As-Is" scans. Add $6.55 per scan for optimized scans, which are opened, checked for stray dust artifacts, and globally fine tuned for color and contrast. Normal turnaround is 2 working days. We can accommodate most types of removable media.

SIGMA FILM SCANS

High quality film scans on our state-of-the-art Durst Sigma scanner. The Sigma can accommodate color negatives, transparencies or Black & White film in the following formats: 135, 645, 6x6, 6x7, 6x9 and 4x5. Maximum file size is 70mb from 35mm film; 200mb from 120 film and 334mb from 4x5 film. Choose jpeg or tiff format in sRGB or Adobe 98 color space.

DRUM SCANS

Drum Scans on our Howtek D4500 scanner are the highest quality scans available. We can scan prints, slides and transparencies up to 8"x10" at a resolution up to 4500ppi.
